[ Well, it seems he's got the basics down.

This isn't the afterlife, even if Kakashi's not entirely sure if he's actually still alive. And the wings don't do anything other than serve a mostly ornamental purpose. Which, in his book, means that they're completely useless and have about as much function as a second belly-button or a third nipple. Either way, they're itchy and uncomfortable and he had to cut holes in his flak vest so they weren't crushed against his body. A flak vest that was kindly delivered to him by his sensei, along with the rest of his gear. (He's only too relieved that it wasn't Naruto or Sakura or someone else who came across him when he was still in that relative state of undress -- what, without the mask and all.)

So here he is, fully dressed, with his journal-cum-communication device in his hand, flipped on. He supposes he should say hello this way since it would be easier to do this than to hunt down every shinobi of Konoha individually. It probably would also be useful for him to introduce himself to the rest of the network as well.

He's sitting on a tree stump while Minato goes off to do something IDEK ok and has his signature I Am Bored expression on his face. Or rather, lack of expression.

The edges of his wings, silver and tipped in black, flutter slightly. ]

Ah, is this thing on?

[ He brings the camera a little closer then, to make sure it's properly capturing him. Once he's sure, he raises a hand in something of a wave.

This is starting to feel like some sort of speed dating thing, minus the actual person sitting in front of him. Not that he's ever actually done speed dating, but he assumes that's how it'd work. ]

Yo. My name is Hatake Kakashi. I'm a shinobi by trade.

[ What does one say in introductions? Likes, dislikes, dreams, and hobbies? Ah, he supposes he can do that. ]

I'm not the kind of guy who talks about his likes and dislikes... My dreams are...hmm.... [ a beat ] none of your business. And I have many hobbies. None of which I want to tell you.

[ Another beat. ]

There have been infiltration missions of different sorts, but you'd never fully integrate yourself.

[Shikamaru turns his head and pulls down his collar, showing Kakashi the small barcode printed on his neck.]

They're trackers. We all have 'em.

[ Kakashi frowns.

They've been branded like cattle and thrown into this place against their will, with these ridiculous wings that are supposedly their life force, and are subjected to human experimentation, and they aren't allowed to actually join the Malnosso and have some say over what happens here. ]

So while there are two people from Luceti who are part of the Malnosso, none of us [ by "us" he means Konoha ] are allowed to join the organization to monitor their activity or anything along those lines because of these?

[ He points at the back of his own neck, which he's sure has a bar code as well. ]

It has nothing to do with allowed. Far as I know, more than half the people in the MSF are former residents of enclosures.

[He smooths his collar out, dropping his hand back down.] They "graduated", so to speak. Earned better treatment and opportunities by cooperating. Luceti has earned some of these privileges, but what you're talking about... Infiltration without a safety net? That'd be seen as insubordination, and we'd get caught in the act before the week's up.

[Especially after the last draft, but he'll go into that later. There's more he should explain about the Malnosso before he gets into the Third Party.]

I wasn't talking about going in cold, but about working our way into the organization. A deep cover op. It would be good to have eyes and ears, if only to know what's really going on behind the curtain, so to speak.

[ But if it's more of a "graduation" type of situation, then there's not much that can be done about it. ]

If we can't get into the Malnosso, do we know where they're headquartered or where they keep their information?

They have various bases throughout the world. TERRACE [Tactical, Engagement, Resistance and Response Aero-Command Enclosure, he explains] seems to be the heart of these. It's a fortress built on a floating island in the sky. I'm not sure how far from here. I was sent there on the last draft through direct transport like the others, so there's no judging distance.

There's a transportation device that goes straight to the headquarters?

Controls are on their side, not ours. Even if it did, it doesn't go just to TERRACE. I imagine you'd have to input coordinates, which we don't have.

[ Kakashi sighs. This is an awful lot of information and he's starting to think if they talk about it, they might just spend the rest of the day doing that and he'd end up not being able to remember everything. It would be so much more practical to have some kind of a document. ]

...by any chance, is there some kind of in-depth intelligence briefing on all of this that I can read?

[ Kakashi reaches into his utility pouch and takes the journal out to show Shikamaru. ]

[And Shikamaru flips through it, eventually coming to the locked network. He goes for this entry, specifically, bookmarking it with his thumb.]

There's a network we use for discussing things we don't want the Malnosso to see. Back when I first showed up, information was regularly made available to the public about things like this.

[He checks a few more entries before flipping back to the place he marked and handing it back to Kakashi.] This one's over a year out-of-date, but no one's done one of these again since. It'll still give you plenty to look over until I can put something current together for you.

[ Kakashi looks down at the journal, then back up at Shikamaru again, before snapping it shut, tucking it away in his utility pack. ]

I'll read it later when I have a chance, and wait for you to put together a briefing... It may be useful to show Yondaime-sama as well.

I will, when it's ready.

[Even if having the Yondaime around is... weird. Not because of serving a Hokage he never knew, no that's fine somehow. It'd just be better if that Hokage didn't have so many stories about his dead teacher, or his dead dad.]

Well, you were the one who suggested that we meet in person to discuss the details of the war further.

[ Kakashi was just the one who agreed that meeting in person would be better because they could discuss sensitive material without having to worry about it being recorded on a journal. ]

(( Since we're going to handwave this thread to cut down on too many backtags since both Pi and I are pretty backlogged, pretty much, here is the summary of what happens in the rest of this thread:

Kakashi fills Shikamaru in on what happens on his end during the war and reiterates that he isn't sure if he survived Obito's last attack. Shikamaru asks Kakashi about Obito, and Kakashi actually fills Shikamaru in on all the details very clinically and in a detached sort of manner, because he thinks it's important that Shikamaru, as the Chief Strategist, knows these things. Then, Shikamaru ends up sort of feeling bad about having asked, but well, it's important and it's their duty.

Kakashi also shares information about Obito he'd discovered while fighting him, such as his weaknesses, and Shikamaru shares what Konan told him about Obito re: the duration he can spend intangible.

Then, Shikamaru would tell Kakashi that Obito's been in Luceti before under the "Tobi" persona, but was not hostile towards them. Instead, he tried to make allies with those not from their world by using that act. Annnnd that's about it. ))
