[ This time when she moved, Kakashi was able to track it. It's very similar to shunshin, but faster -- the distances that are moved are different, as well as the method, as there was a discernible streak of motion that Kakashi was able to track with Sharingan, but physically knows he wouldn't be able to keep up with.

Though he's copied the technique, physically, his body isn't capable of the speed she's moving without more knowledge -- and without risking severe injury.

So instead, he lightly shrugs. ]

Saa, is that so. I guess I don't like rules very much, Yoruichi-san~

[ Said lightly as he glances at her over his shoulder while he molds chakra.

And suddenly, he's gone. No sign of him anywhere to be found. He's masking his chakra expertly, but someone who is incredibly good at sensing should be able to discern that he's still there.

The question, though, is where. ]

Hoooh.

[She's surprised, but not dismayed by his seeming disappearance--she can tell he's still there, after all, but it's rather more difficult to pinpoint his reiatsu now.]

[But she's not worried. Yoruichi may have left the Onmitskidou, but her skills have hardly degraded to uselessness. One foot sweeps out, digging a furrow in a half-arc, and loosening dirt around her. She extends one hand, hopping back a pace.]

Hadou no 58--Tenran.

[It's a mid-level spell, but she uses just a whisper of power, turning what could be a powerful cyclone of air into something less destructive. The swirling air hits the dirt she'd just loosened, sending it out in a widening spiral.]

[Will the dirt bounce off an unseen form,betraying Kakashi's position? Or has he moved somewhere out of its range?]

[ The swirling air only picks up leaves in the wind -- and for a moment, everything is silent and still. But it's at that very second that the earth right before Yoruichi's feet break up and Kakashi comes punching out of the ground, reaching for her. His fingertips are so close to brushing her, he can feel the warmth emanating off her body. ]

[Yoruichi jumps back just in time, catching the brief spike in his reiatsu just before he breaks through the ground. A low laugh escapes her; it's not hard to appreciate skill and technique, and it's a pleasure to test both against someone new.]

[Given her mastery of it, shunpo backwards is easy, especially a short distance like this. Instead of landing on the ground once more, though, she collects reishi beneath her feet, skidding to a stop on air several yards from where she'd been.]

[ Earth crumbles off Kakashi as he lands, eye tracking Yoruichi the short distance she'd retreated. With her speed, it'd be very difficult to actually catch her without using extensive jutsu or traps, some of which could be potentially fatal or cause serious injury, which Kakashi isn't particularly interested in trying out, unless it's in the Battle Dome.

Yoruichi not only is fast, but it appears she can fly -- after all, she's just hanging out in the air and that's not something the average person can do. There aren't many others who can move like her, but Vegeta certainly comes to mind as one of the few who can. ]

What do you call that technique?

Shunpo.

[From this distance, she can see that the eye Kakashi normally keeps covered has a scar through it. It's harder to see any detail, but she's almost positive it's a different color than the other one.]

[Interesting.]

Unless you mean this? [She drops to the ground, her stance casual, but balanced to move in any direction.] It's just collecting particles in the air; it doesn't really have a name. How about yours?

[ Kakashi eyes the way Yoruichi moves a bit curiously -- simply collecting particles in the air and allowing it to gain enough density that one can fly is certainly not an easy technique. But then, neither is shunpo, which is something he'd very much like to learn more about. ]

The technique itself is called "Doton Moguragakure no Jutsu", and it's considered an elemental ninjutsu that involves manipulating the earth with chakra, which is the combination of spiritual and physical energy.

[ He nods in her general direction. ]

How does shunpo work?

[If asked, she'd tell Kakashi that it certainly takes a fair amount of practice--it's easy to get distracted in a fight and lose your footing without sufficient focus.]

[His explanation is fascinating, though--manipulating one's own reiryoku is one thing, but to manipulate the earth as well? His use of 'elemental' implies that earth isn't the only substance he can affect. If so, his techniques sound immensely useful.]

You're basically trying to go as far as possible while using as few steps as possible. You gather spiritual energy at your feet to [she pauses] propel you, for lack of a better term.

And can anyone learn how to use this technique?

[ He's not even going to try and pretend like he isn't interested in learning. ]

[She pauses, her eyes scanning him a moment--not unfriendly, but assessing. When she finally speaks, it's deliberate, and rather more sober than she's been with him before.]

You might be able to learn, if you can control your energy well enough. But human bodies aren't meant to travel at those speeds--if you overdo it, you could shatter your own bones.

[And she'd just as soon not be responsible for that happening to him.]

[ That's more or less what he assumed. It is, however, a risk he is more than willing to take. Even though he knows he'll never be a fraction of the shunpo user Yoruichi is, he can see how it'd be immensely useful in battle. ]

I'd be interesting in learning, and would be happy to teach you what I can, if you are interested in any ninja techniques.

[A wry, almost exasperated smile touches her lips, and she blows out an amused huff. She can't say she's surprised by his answer, but she still intends to keep a close eye on him as they train. Shinigami bodies can take much more punishment than a human's, after all.]

Don't say I didn't warn you. So tell me, if that was an earth technique, are there other kinds?

Plenty. [ Kakashi nods. ]

Ninja techniques most people can learn are comprised of three different types -- taijutsu, or hand-to-hand combat; genjutsu, which creates illusions; and ninjutsu, which is a broad term for any sort of technique that involves molding chakra and using hand seals to activate the jutsu.

Within ninjutsu include elemental jutsu, which allows you to manipulate earth, water, wind, fire, and lightning.

[Yoruichi listens, folding her arms across her chest in unconscious habit.]

To be honest, I'm more interested in breaking illusions than casting them.

[It's too late to do anything about Aizen, but if she can help it, she'll never be caught at the mercy of someone's illusions again.]

Kidou uses your own reiryoku, but it doesn't use elements the way you just did. I wouldn't mind learning more about that.

"Kidou"? "Reiryoku?"

[ Kakashi starts to close the distance between them since he'd really rather not have a conversation some twenty feet apart. ]

I don't think I'm familiar with those terms.

[Yoruichi steps closer as well, now that it looks like their game of tag is done for the moment.]

Kidou is the term for the techniques I was telling you about before--the ones we can use for offense, defense or healing. Reiryoku is just another term for spiritual energy.

Ah, I see. I suppose in my world, we would call reiryoku "chakra", which is the output of spiritual and physical energy, molded together.

[ Kakashi heads across the field until he's standing in arm's distance away from Yoruichi. ]

Is reiryoku only spiritual energy, or is there a physical element, too?

[She shakes her head]

Just spiritual. Everyone at home has some level of spiritual energy, but not everyone has enough to use it.

[She pauses]

You can use it to enhance your physical strength, but those techniques aren't like what you've shown me.

[Strictly speaking, shunko is a blend of physical and spiritual strengths, but the results are nothing like what Kakashi's shown he can do.]

Ah, is that so?

[ Now he's curious. ]

How high would say my level is?

[ It's hard for him to gauge his own spiritual energy, after all, seeing as spiritual energy is only half of what makes up chakra. ]

Stronger than most people.

[She pauses]

Stronger than most humans, anyway. I'd say you feel about average for a shinigami.

[She hasn't yet told anyone she isn't human, but it's not like she'd hiding it, either. This is just one of the few conversations where it's relevant to mention.]

[ura_no_ura]

[ Anything else that might have come out of Kakashi's mouth at that moment promptly evaporates as he just blinks. ]

Shinigami.

[ Monotoned as he half-wonders if the shinigami that Sandaime and Minato summoned looked anything like Yoruichi. ]

[They couldn't possibly have looked as good as Yoruichi]

[She grins at his startled blink, inordinately pleased to have taken him aback, even slightly]

Mm hmm~

[ She had said "stronger than most humans," which means that she isn't human, but in fact, a "shinigami." What that means in her world is most likely considerably different from Kakashi's own. ]

I never exactly pictured a god of death looking quite like you.

[ If that particular sentence hadn't come out in such dry monotone, it might have sounded like he was flirting with her. ]

What did you think we looked like?

[Given that Kakashi is from a different world entirely, she's curious as to what his conception of a shinigami might be.]

Monstrous.

[ Said without any hesitation.

After all, bijuu alone look monstrous enough, and Kakashi could only imagine a shinigami, the likes of which Minato and Sandaime summoned with Shiki Fuuin no Jutsu, would be far worse. ]
