[ Well, it seems he's got the basics down.
This isn't the afterlife, even if Kakashi's not entirely sure if he's actually still alive. And the wings don't do anything other than serve a mostly ornamental purpose. Which, in his book, means that they're completely useless and have about as much function as a second belly-button or a third nipple. Either way, they're itchy and uncomfortable and he had to cut holes in his flak vest so they weren't crushed against his body. A flak vest that was kindly delivered to him by his sensei, along with the rest of his gear. (He's only too relieved that it wasn't Naruto or Sakura or someone else who came across him when he was still in that relative state of undress -- what, without the mask and all.)
So here he is, fully dressed, with his journal-cum-communication device in his hand, flipped on. He supposes he should say hello this way since it would be easier to do this than to hunt down every shinobi of Konoha individually. It probably would also be useful for him to introduce himself to the rest of the network as well.
He's sitting on a tree stumpwhile Minato goes off to do something IDEK ok and has his signature I Am Bored expression on his face. Or rather, lack of expression.
The edges of his wings, silver and tipped in black, flutter slightly. ]
Ah, is this thing on?
[ He brings the camera a little closer then, to make sure it's properly capturing him. Once he's sure, he raises a hand in something of a wave.
This is starting to feel like some sort of speed dating thing, minus the actual person sitting in front of him. Not that he's ever actually done speed dating, but he assumes that's how it'd work. ]
Yo. My name is Hatake Kakashi. I'm a shinobi by trade.
[ What does one say in introductions? Likes, dislikes, dreams, and hobbies? Ah, he supposes he can do that. ]
I'm not the kind of guy who talks about his likes and dislikes... My dreams are...hmm.... [ a beat ] none of your business. And I have many hobbies. None of which I want to tell you.
[ Another beat. ]
Any questions?

maybe if you're in ninja PRESCHOOL
Which a. isn't fair, and b. he knows better. He was part of the Niju Shotai, which had ample information about Itachi's Sharingan. He prepared himself that time Sasuke was here, in case he would have to counter it. Uchiha genjutsu outclasses even top shinobi's skillsets.
So instead Shikamaru sighs, drumming his fingers on the table next to his journal. The faint thrum-thrum of it is just audible.]
If we want to talk about this further, I suggest we do so in person. I've filtered this conversation, but it remains to be potentially sensitive information. I don't want a record of it on the journals.
OH WHATEVER YOU JUST DONT LIKE STARS, FINE. YOU GET NOTHING
Are you saying that this is actually recorded? Permanently?
HEY HEY YOU'RE THE ONE NEEDING SOMETHING HERE
DETAILS.
Very well. We should meet. I'm currently staying with Yondaime-sama and his family.
Just because he'd tell you anyways 8|
[He doesn't wait for a response, just closes his journal and heads out. He'll be knocking at the front door soon enough.]

It feels like Kakashi skipped that stage altogether. Not that Shikamaru doesn't get it.]
For the record, even if that conversation was permanent, no one can read it without my journal or yours. Besides the Malnosso, but they don't care.
no subject
[ Kakashi doesn't have as many questions initially because he's had most of his answered by Minato. And what Minato didn't answer he was able to answer himself by skimming through the guide. But even still, he does have quite a lot of questions -- ones that he didn't have the opportunity to ask Minato. Ones he wanted to wait to ask. ]
Are we being monitored at all times?
no subject
[You want to play it safe, either way. When it comes to threat level, however, Shikamaru gives the impression of only sailing at a mild yellow.]
no subject
[ They're far away enough from the village and everyone else that Kakashi thinks it's safe to discuss this. There are some questions that he hadn't had a chance to ask or have answered, or time to really consider until now. And there seems to be no one better other than Shikamaru to ask. ]
The Malnosso. What do you know about them that isn't included in the guide? What do they really want with us?
no subject
Depends on who you're asking. They're a large group, a lot of them no more informed than civilians. Even with the factions we deal with - scientists, and military - opinions are split.
no subject
[ Why are opinions split, is what Kakashi means. He wants to know everything. All the details. ]
Leave nothing out.
[ Though most of the basic questions he had were answered by Minato and the guide, there was far too much that was left unsaid, that Minato didn't have the answers for because he was still too new in this place, or that Kakashi hadn't had the right person to ask. Or the right place, for that matter.
If their journals were under observation, he wasn't sure just how much of this place was also under observation -- and the kind of questions he's asking, well. If he was the one running some strange operation that involved the abduction of people from other worlds, he would certainly want to make sure there wasn't anyone around who would ask too many questions. Or the wrong kind of questions.
Anyone who could be a threat. ]
1/2
But this... is going to take a while.]

The Malnosso are an organization that's existed for over a thousand years. It's members, even today, are made up of people like us. People who were drawn away from their worlds into this one. They're not the ones doing it, it's the planet itself.
[No, he doesn't know how. It seems no one does, or if they do they're not sharing. What he does know is that there are those among them that, even after all this time, still want to find a way back to their homes.
They've amassed a massive foundation dedicated to finding the answer to this question. Shikamaru promises to come back to this, but for now places emphasis on the science division of the Malnosso.
Some people inexplicably return back to their worlds as quickly as they arrived, so there has to be a way out. But over time, these departures came few and far between. After a long enough period, most find themselves stuck in this world permanently. According to the scientist's research, then, the answer to getting everyone out relies on studying those who are newly arrived.
Enter the enclosures.]
All new arrivals to this world are somehow filtered into enclosures like this one. By my estimates, at a minimum there are two dozen of these.
There the Malnosso's scientists can study them, via experiments effecting the village. Some are benign, others are not [Here he gives examples: people who've been turned back into their child selves, or characters from fairy tales. Experiment that have made them hallucinate, or forget who they are - implanted false memories, or false lives. An amusement park. Altered personalities.] None I've seen have been of the Orochimaru-type variety, and most wear off given a week or two. They utilize something called Shifting to accomplish this.
no subject
The human experimentation by the Malnosso, people just like them, is far more concerning. ]
So let me get this straight. People just like us somehow managed to become part of the ruling order, the Malnosso, here in this world, and they take it upon themselves to conduct human experimentation against our will. What is the purpose of this?
no subject
[Here he spreads his hands, looking back towards the village.] I don't know what they do to determine all of this, but I can't argue that they're learning nothing. I first came here nearly three years ago, and since then the population has been reduced by at least one hundred bodies.
[Not that he's grateful for what he's suffered through for it, but if he's to take what Bil said for truth, they were even responsible for sending him home four months ago.]
no subject
[ After all, the Malnosso is comprised of "people just like them," right? ]

Molly is a secretary, or was a former one, to the last CEO. She was born in this world, and is about my age. She's got a stutter like when Hinata was a kid, and is afraid of most of us, but I think she's here for safekeeping.
[Haha, his age. He's older than he looks now, but doesn't think to clarify.]
The other woman is Carol. Dark hair, your age. She's a formal schoolteacher, and a liaison. She arrived here at the end of May and said she would be staying, but I haven't seen her since.

[ Or in other words, attempt to join and become part of the organization. It would make for excellent intelligence gathering. ]
no subject
There have been infiltration missions of different sorts, but you'd never fully integrate yourself.
[Shikamaru turns his head and pulls down his collar, showing Kakashi the small barcode printed on his neck.]
They're trackers. We all have 'em.
no subject
They've been branded like cattle and thrown into this place against their will, with these ridiculous wings that are supposedly their life force, and are subjected to human experimentation, and they aren't allowed to actually join the Malnosso and have some say over what happens here. ]
So while there are two people from Luceti who are part of the Malnosso, none of us [ by "us" he means Konoha ] are allowed to join the organization to monitor their activity or anything along those lines because of these?
[ He points at the back of his own neck, which he's sure has a bar code as well. ]
